The Joy of Sport ~ 12th July 2026

Published on July 10, 2026

The Joy of Sport – We continue to be blessed with beautiful summer days.  However, in truth, there is also a quietness these days following Cork’s defeat in the All-Ireland semi-final last weekend.  While we are all disappointed now, please God, there will be better days ahead.  The essence of sport is the hope that victorious days will come and we hold to that.  Interestingly, Pope Leo said that one of the things that he will  do during his summer rest will be to keep in touch with sport.  Indeed, Pope Francis also often welcomed sports teams to visit him.  Sport transcends boundaries and generations.  The communal experience of attending a match or any sporting event brings us all together.  So, we continue to support and pray for our beloved teams.  May the Lord bring us success and an appreciation of our amateur sports people who give their time to follow our shared passion.  St. Michael, pray for us. – Fr. Michael
