Thought For The Day 28th June 2026
The cross-shaped baptismal (right) at Avdat (Negev desert), is a kind of
illustration of the second reading from Romans. Three words come to mind:
Baptism means communion — radical communion, setting aside distinctions and differences; baptism means participation — not only in Jesus’ death and resurrection but in the life of the community of faith; finally, baptism means mission — it is both grace and vocation, gift and task. In that vision, baptism
is not a fact from our past but a way of being in the present.
Those three words — communion, participation and mission — might ring a bell.
These words describe the Synodal Pathway, initiated by Pope Francis
