Happy New Year

We have celebrated Christmas wonderfully here in St. Michael’s this year.  It has helped to lift the gloom that can surround us towards the end of the year as well as the stress of having to do so much in preparation for Christmas.  This weekend, we are in a much quieter time.  In truth, it’s a lovely time of the year, quieter, calmer and less frantic.

It’s impressive to see so many people and families visiting the church crib since Christmas.  So many people drop into our church to pray quietly and privately.  Parents and grandparents have taken the time to bring their children and grandchildren to the crib taking time to explain and reflect.  Many drop in to light a candle at one of the shrines.

We are grateful to everyone who voluntarily give their time to parish ministries, the maintenance, care and decoration of our beloved church.  May the Lord bless you all into the new year for your generosity and faithfulness.  Our parish could not work so well without such good people giving voluntarily.

On this Feast of the Holy Family, may the Lord bless you and your families, console those who have lost someone close this year and please God, strengthen us for the new year ahead.

May God bless you and your family for 2026 and may the words of the first reading on 1st January, the Feast of Mary the Mother of God and World Day of Prayer for Peace be special for you and your family:

‘May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord let his face shine on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord uncover his face to you and bring you peace.” – Fr. Michael

Thank You – for your generosity in the Christmas Dues and Christmas Offertory Collection.  It’s so encouraging to realise the generosity of people throughout the year but especially over Christmas.  Go raibh maith agat.

Altar Servers – we now have a team of five altar servers who contribute so much to the celebration of Mass.  We look forward to growing that team of altar servers into 2026.

Christmas Dues Envelopes – remain available in the church.  Contributions can also be given to the ‘Priests Collection’ via the Donate button on the parish website.

Tuesday 6th January – Feast of the Epiphany – Mass @ 9.30am

Friday 2nd January – Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will not take place.
